Surge in lemon demand observed in Kochi district

In Kochi, there's been a notable uptick in the demand for lemons, a trend that aligns with the onset of the monsoon season. Market insights reveal a significant increment in lemon prices.

Most of the lemon is coming from Nellore in Andhra Pradesh. Though small markets in the district are also unloading lemon sacks, Ernakulam Market is the place where the highest quantity of lemon is reaching daily, says a wholesale lemon trader in the market. He said the demand was at its peak during the fasting period last month. The wholesale price currently ranges at Rs 95 per kg and the retail price is around Rs 110-120/kg.

It is expected that the price would not go up further this time as the harvesting of lemon has increased in AP, he said. The price of lemon had risen to Rs 300 per kg in Kerala last year due to a production decline.
