Argentina creates a new information procedure for containers

The Federal Gross Revenue Administration (AFIP), the Argentine body responsible for tax control, announced a new information procedure for the containers engaged in international freight.

Under the General Resolution 3615, the Argentine government seeks to deepen customs controls by implementing an advanced information log and introducing a new concept in the customs' management and control model.

"The procedure will help achieve greater transparency and security in foreign trade," said Ricardo Echegaray, head of AFIP, explaining that the new provisions "will allow risk management in real time, simplify customs information processes and streamline the information on containers and the people responsible for them."

The new norm establishes an information procedure on the operating containers via the Record Container web service, for which there will be operational details available at: www.afip.gob.ar.

The processes and tools of the new information procedure aim to reduce the paperwork at Customs and to facilitate the exchange of information between the various sectors involved in foreign trade.

According to the AFIP, the container operators enrolled in the Special Customs Records will be subjected to the measure.

Meanwhile, the process to operate within the new regime specifies that the Container Record will be automatically assigned to the obligors, which must have a Fiscal Code, and the information of the container must be provided no less than 24 hours before it arrives to customs. Losses and transfers must be communicated within 48 hours.
