"From colleagues I also hear that there are Dutch growers or traders, who offer pears cheaper. There are even prices of 84 cents and delivered at the door. This causes disquiet in the market and traders lose customers. These traders now want to get rid of their products and earn something quickly. We want to obtain everything that is available. It is not very clever to offer such volumes at a cheaper price. We in general stick to the auction price. Unfortunately not everybody does this and the result is a strange market situation. It is frustrating when one notices that customers do not want your product, because somebody else offers it at a lower price."
He also says it is definitely noticeable that less was harvested this season. "At the auction houses lower volumes have been dealt with for weeks already. There are some, who say that there will be more pears in two month's time, but I expect that there will be sufficient supply till the end of the season. Growers are satisfied with the season. Some even say, that they earned more last year. The profit margin, which they had left per kilo, was more then. Now more money is available, but less is being traded."
