Efforts to stabilize prices for local agricultural produce in Qatar

The Ministry of Municipality in Qatar is actively working to stabilize prices of local agricultural produce, particularly during peak seasons. This period typically sees an influx of vegetables from both Qatari farms and international sources. Through its Agricultural Affairs Department, the Ministry has launched initiatives aimed at reducing production costs for local farms to enhance their competitiveness against imported goods. A key strategy includes the promotion of only high-quality agricultural produce in peak seasons to manage market saturation.

Ahmed Salem Al Yafei, Head of the Agricultural Guidance and Services Section at the Ministry, detailed ongoing collaborations with relevant ministries to address challenges faced by local farmers due to the import of large quantities of agricultural produce. Efforts are being made to regulate the import of vegetables to those that meet local quality standards. Al Yafei highlighted the provision of agricultural inputs like fertilizers, pesticides, seeds, irrigation systems, and greenhouses at no cost to farmers, alongside marketing platforms designed to ensure profitable returns for local producers.
