In Hanoi, despite the development of various organic agriculture models yielding positive outcomes, scaling these models to a commercial level presents challenges. The city, with over 197,000 ha of agricultural land, has a relatively small portion dedicated to organic farming, encompassing about 2,000 ha of crops and over 10 ha of aquaculture.
According to Vu Thi Huong, director of the Hanoi Agriculture Promotion Centre, organic agriculture models demonstrate an economic efficiency 10-20% higher than conventional methods, enhancing farmers' knowledge and market access. However, Trinh Thi Nguyet from Dong Phu Organic Agriculture Cooperative points out the high costs and consumer appeal issues facing organic products.
Bui Thi Hanh Hieu suggests that overcoming these obstacles requires support in scientific, technological, and standard compliance aspects, alongside brand development and trade promotion efforts. To mitigate environmental impacts, Hanoi is executing a project focusing on organic agriculture combined with eco-tourism and high-tech practices, aiming to boost organic production through concentrated areas and key products.
