France: record banana consumption

France is going bananas! Or at least, it has been consuming a lot of them. Over the past 12 months (December 2017 to November 2018), banana imports in France went up 7.1% to reach 625,000 tons, according to the fruit and vegetable specialist FruiTrop.

The market is experiencing an important rise of the dollar banana, with quantities which have doubled (from 100,000 tons at the end of 2016 to more than 220,000 tons at the end of 2018), the volumes of bananas of African, Caribbean and Pacific origins (ACP) are also progressing, going from 420,000 to 460,000 tons in two years.
