China: Dwarf banana planting map is quietly changing

The peak time for shipments in Guangdong, one of the most important production areas of the dwarf banana, was from April to July this year. In August, whether you are a dwarf banana merchant, a fruit agent or a grower, people will look to Guangxi. The planting scale and sales market of dwarf bananas are not as good as for ordinary bananas, and they have always been seen as a non-mainstream variety.

But in recent years, the layout of the dwarf banana planting has been quietly changing. Affected by factors such as blight and market instability, the area of the banana industry in Guangxi has shrunk from 1.6-1.8 million mu in 2015 to 60-700,000 mu in 2018.

Compared with the same period of the previous year, the area of Guangxi's banana industry has shown a steady upward trend. According to incomplete statistics, the planting area of Guangxi Jinfen No. 1 has reached 150,000 mu in 2017, and it is still rising in 2018, and it may reach 180,000 mu.

From the southernmost tip of China to the northernmost tip of China, bananas are consumed by almost everyone. However, as far as the banana is concerned, many northern consumers have never even seen the fruit variety of the dwarf banana. At present, the main sales areas of the banana are concentrated in the southern regions of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao and Fujian, which are not popular in the northern market. It is because of the problem of transportation - its thin skin and fast ripening characteristics increase the difficulty of transporting the dwarf bananas in terms of cost.
