Turkey: New dam in Alasehir will benefit grape growers

71 % of the construction of the Toygarli dam near, Alasehir, Manisa, a city located in western Turkey, is now complete and the dam will bring irrigation to 129 hectares of land in the area. The majority of these production areas are planted with grapevines which are the most efficient grapevines in Turkey.

Alasehir is the production base for the world famous Sultaniye variety of grapes, which are always in high demand in export markets. The dam is expected to help growers save costs of up to 250,000 USD annually in the region by replacing more expensive irrigation methods. A more efficient irrigation system is expected to work wonders for the productivity in the area and annual production numbers are expected to increase consistently once the dam becomes operational.
