Mercato di Cesena has estimated a 12-19% increase in prices for the months of July and August 2018 compared to 2017. The gross saleable production of peaches, nectarines and plums has increased sensibly thanks to good market trends. There were no particular overlaps and those who focused on high-quality worked well.
In July, yellow peaches saw an increase in price of 19.30% compared to 2017 with an average of €1.36/kg. In August, the average was €1.23/kg against the €1.06 of 2017.
Plums sold at €1.54/kg on average, a 15% increase in the month of July. In August, the increase was 14% with €1.39/kg.
Nectarines also did well. Considering grades between A and AAA, the average price in July 2018 was €1.39/kg against the €1.24 of July 2017. In August, a 15.18% increase brought the price from €1.12/kg (2017) to €1.29/kg (2018).
"These figures encourage us and also help producers selling through our platform. Markets are places where supply and demand meet, and supply is usually made up of high-quality local produce. Usually, the fruit is harvested and placed on shelves to be sold in only 12-24 hours," explains market manager Domenico Scarpellini.

The L'Angolo del Mercato initiative has just started. Traders who are part of the project will be advertised on local TV and in newspapers, stressing the seasonality and freshness of local productions.
