Prata banana could be good competition for Cavendish

The Prata banana is genuinely Brazilian, and has been looking to make its way into markets all over the world. The company ABANORTE is proud to be doing this. The particularity of this variety is its docility, and its longer ripening time which contributes to the logistics.

20 years ago, even in Brazil, this kind of banana was not consumed, but little by little it has evolved into a highly desired fruit for consumers. Its maturation process, the protection of the fruit due to the thick skin and its flavor are desired by everyone, including children, who also admire it for its size. These are all features that can put the Cavendish and Prata banana on the same level in the international markets. In Minas, there are 20 000 hectares of production, where the irrigation and the semi-arid climate provide low levels of disease. For Black Sigatoka 4 applications are required, unlike other countries where they reach 50.
