"China: "Cold weather makes it difficult for Henan grapes to change color"

The grapes from this production season in Henan already entered the market in mid-July, and supply is expected to last until mid-September. Fresh Plaza discussed the conditions of this production season with a vineyard owner in Henan, who stated that the selling price of grapes is lower this year than it was in the same period in the previous year, and the overall production volume is smaller.

The vineyard owner further stated that many grape production areas throughout China experienced extreme weather conditions this year. In April, for example, a cold air current impacted fruit production throughout China, Henan included. This definitely limited the Henan grape production volume and made it difficult for grapes to change color.

In this production area, however, the grape production volume was still larger than last year. The main reason for this development is increased production from vineyard expansion. The additional surface area devoted to grape production far exceeded the restrictive influence of extreme weather conditions.

Of course, the price is influenced by many different conditions, which includes market area and brand management. As for product varieties, the price of Jufeng grapes dropped by 0.3 yuan [0.04 USD] per 0.5 kg in comparison with the same period in the previous year, while Yangguang Meigui sells well and maintains a stable price.
