Egyptian pomegranate season starting: “We’ve increased production by 25% this year”

The Pomegranate season is about to take off. Although the big powerhouses Turkey and Greece deliver a lot of produce, Egypt will also deliver a fair bit of the fruit. Fruttella is one of the exporters in Egypt that is preparing to ship out the Pomegranates. The harvest will start in just a couple of days’ time.

Mr. Ahmed Sarhan, CEO of Fruttella, says the company has increased its produce: “We’ve upped the production of ‘Wonderful’ pomegranates by 25% this year. Fruttella produced about 800 tonnes in 2017 and we aim to harvest around 1000 tonnes in 2018. We have increased the cultivation area by a little bit, leading to this increase of production.”

The pomegranates will be exported to Canada and Russia mostly, but will also be sold locally in Egypt. “Our biggest competitors are Turkey and Greece, that have a very good export market of this fruit, but we’re confident we’ll have a great season and will be able to sell all of our produce, even with the increase of 200 tonnes.”
