China: Henan Wanbang Market sees drop in longan prices

Longans entered the market last week, but the pricing remained cold. One trader explained that most of the longan currently on the market comes from Yunnan. The current price is 6 yuan [0.87 USD] per kg, which is much lower than it was last year. The main reasons for this development are as follows: first, the weather; although autumn is quickly approaching, the weather last week was still scorching hot. The weather complicated storage of longans. Traders prefer to sell their longans within 10 days or the fruit dries up, the skin wrinkles, and the flavor deteriorates.

Second, people do not like go out during hot weather to shop. The longan sales volume was far from ideal. Third, there is an abundance of other fruit available in the summer. Consumers have many options to choose from, which also influenced the price of longan.
