Exporting mangosteen to China

'Indonesia is competitive enough'

Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman approved the export of 9,000 tons of mangosteens to China via Ngurah Rai Airport, Bali on September 6th.

The fruit was produced by a farmer's group in Padanan Village, Pupuan Subdistrict, and marks a turning point for Indonesia as, since December 2017, China has reopened its doors to Indonesian mangosteen.

2018 clearly gives traders the opportunity to boost mangosteen exports. In 2015, Indonesia's mangosteen exports had reached 23,000 tons with an export value of $6.5 million, but in 2017 it fell to only 11,000 tons. "Since the reopening of the export tap to China, Indonesia to date [August] has succeeded in encouraging the export of 33,000 tons of mangosteen with an export value of $9.3 million, far beyond the exports of previous years," said Amran.

He was present in Bali for several events, including the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN) about the rise of agricultural investment and exports.

As described by en.netralnews.com, China has a very large demand. Mangosteen exports to China from January to June 2018 alone reached 17,000 tons from the total Indonesian mangosteen exports of 29,000 tons.
