China: Hebei string bean price rises, green pepper price drops

Spring season string beans have gradually been appearing on the shelves since early July, and summer season string beans have just entered the market. The price of string beans has had as many ups and downs in the last month.

In the vegetable wholesale market in Shijiazhuang, Hebei, prices dropped from 1.5-2 yuan [0.22-0.29 USD] per 0.5 kg in June to 1 yuan [0.14 USD] per 0.5 kg in the first week of July. The price gradually rose again in mid-July and had climbed as high as 2.5 yuan [0.36 USD] per 0.5 kg in the last week of July. This price is estimated to stay at this level in the near future. The price of green peppers is the opposite. Since the harvest was abundant, the price has steadily fallen to a record low this year.
