Overview European potato market week 31

Belgium: Strong price rice for Bintje

Belgium
Fiwap/PCA market message:
Industrial varieties: General price, 35 mm+, min 60% 50 mm+, min 360 g/5kg of EPS, bulk, friable, selling price, excluding VAT, direct delivery:
2017 harvest: the last transactions are made in context of a very limited supply (depleted stocks), industrial demand is still active to offset the lack of early crops, and the strong market observed the situation in the field:

Fontane: €15,00 – €17,00/a;
Bintje: €7,00 – €10,00/a;
Challenger: €10,00 - €15,00/a

2018 harvest: Early belgian crops: €20,00 – €25,00/a, depending on destination, quality, and amount. Higher prices are reported for exceptional lots. The supply is almost zero, given the very low yields (which are regularly insufficient to honour the contracts). Plantation grubbings are in progress primarily on the lightest plots, but with a lot of soil in the skips (> 30%). Yields are estimated at about 20t/ha in dry plots, and above 30t/ha in irrigated plots.

Netherlands
Any remaining potatoes from the 2017 harvest are processed by factories lacking raw materials, regardless of variety and quality. This week’s supply progressively consists of early crops, which should boost the trade. Last week's prices were between €18.00 and €20.00/a, but the upward trend is obvious.
