Honduras: Solar cold chambers to boost potato and avocado production

Authorities from the Honduran government and representatives from Taiwan laid the first stone for the photovoltaic generation infrastructure of two cold industrial chambers that will promote the conservation, demonstration, improvement, and production of potato and avocado seeds in La Esperanza, Intibuca.

This rural development initiative arose through an international cooperation agreement between Honduras and the Republic of China Taiwan and the implementation of the Seed Reproduction Project of Healthy Potatoes Sana and Avocadoes in the Experimental Station of Santa Catarina.

The construction of the two cold chambers will be developed with a budget of 113,521 dollars (about 2.8 million lempiras) from the Technical Mission of Taiwan (ICDF-TAIWAN).

The project will be a reference in the efficient use of resources and the access of technology applied to small producers. Photovoltaic energy is a great contribution, because it is a clean, green, and environmentally friendly energy.
