The Bio-Siegel: Germany's most famous quality seal
In a random sample of 1,039 representatively selected consumers, 26 proof and quality seals were put to the test. The most well-known is the Bio-Siegel: 89 percent of respondents recognized the seal on products. Even with a larger range, the Bio-Siegel was in first place with 64 percent. Half of respondents also said that they found it helpful to make their own purchasing decisions and to buy a product through the Bio-Siegel. 71 percent of those surveyed generally consider proof and quality seals to be a positive thing.
Trust in Bio-Siegel relevant for manufacturers
This once again makes it clear that confidence in the Bio-Siegel remains high - and with this, its relevance for retailers and manufacturers. According to data from the German Federal Agency for Agriculture and Food (BLE), 5,124 companies currently use the Bio-Siegel on around 77,700 products. The largest category of goods are hot drinks such as tea, coffee and cocoa (11,151 products), followed by herbs and spices (8,638) as well as bread and baked goods (5,994).
Organic farming is growing
The upward trend in organic food production in Germany is reflected in current data from the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture. In 2017, the organic area grew by 9.7 percent to 1.37 million hectares. The number of organic farms increased by 8.3 percent.
