London Produce Show and Conference donation

Surplus fruit and veg to feed 4,500 Londoners

City Harvest is London’s largest food redistribution charity which focuses on the ‘last mile’ of food surplus to help feed the city’s most vulnerable people. It offers a simple solution to connect waste and want safely, reliably and efficiently and works with over 150 London charities. Since its creation in 2014, it has had a massive impact on the city by redistributing over 1,000 tonnes of food surplus which has helped make 2.3 million meals.

Recently, City Harvest was approached to partner with the London Produce Show and Conference for the first time and help them redistribute surplus food from exhibitors of the event which was held at Grosvenor House, Park Lane. It picked up two tonnes of fruit and vegetables from the show which were served in meals the next day for more than 4,500 hungry Londoners.

Laura Winningham, CEO of City Harvest commented: “We were delighted to be asked to support the London Produce Show. Fresh produce is highly prized by the charities we work with and forms around 40% of the total food we redistribute. The fruit and vegetables we picked up were excellent quality and there were many happy charities around London serving nutritious meals because of our work with the London Produce Show.”

“We regularly deliver to around 150 charities in London but we have identified over 900 community meal programmes who could benefit from receiving surplus food, so please do get in touch if you want to donate to us.”

Hannah Govin, Chief Marketing Officer London Produce Show said: “The LPS18 was thrilled to receive the support of such a worthy charity to redistribute the fresh produce showcased at this year’s show. We look forward to working together again in the future to reduce food waste and help feed and nourish the capital’s vulnerable.”
