Argentinian peach production grows by 175%

The volume of peaches supplied to the Central Market of Buenos Aires in the 2017-2018 campaign reached 5,152 tonnes, which is 175% more than in the previous season, when the volume stood at 1,897 tonnes.

The figures published by the newsletter of the MCBA are good news for the sector, given the drop in volumes that had been recorded in recent years. The supply this campaign peaked during the month of February, with 1,653.3 tonnes; 32.1% of the total.

Also remarkable is the seasonality of the different producing areas, and also that the three provinces supplying the largest volumes are still Mendoza, with 64%, Río Negro, with 25%, and Neuquén, which accounted for 6.6% of the total. These 3 provinces accounted for 96% of the total volume of peaches supplied this campaign.

Regarding the main varieties, 24 different varieties were marketed this season. The 3 most important ones (Caldesi, Venus and Aniversario Inta) represent 46.3% of the total. It should also be noted that 28.9% of the total was marketed "without varietal identification".
