Season of fresh Italian corncobs has begun at SIPO

SIPO is happy to inform you that starting from Monday 18 June 2018, fresh corncobs in flow-pack wrapping, branded Sapori del mio Orto, are going to be available again.

Corn is one of the most widely spread cereal grain of the world. Suitable for a hypocaloric diet and rich in nutritional values, it is a versatile cereal with many beneficial properties and few contraindications. It is fundamental for developing countries as it is widely used not only for human consumption but also in the zoo-technical industry, mostly for livestock feeding.

In Italy, the 70% of the cultivation is located in the north eastern regions: Friuli, Lombardy, Piedmont and Veneto, where SIPO cultivates corn in the province of Padua. The plant grows in 70-90 days, can grow up to 10 meters high and produces about six corncobs.

Corn is rich in amid, high in fibers and much less caloric than other cereal grains, such as wheat and rice. It is rich in mineral salts such as iron, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus and potassium and has a low amount of sodium. Moreover, it contains numerous vitamins of the groups B and A.

It is very versatile in the kitchen and suitable for different recipes: starters, first courses, side dishes, desserts such as corn donut, corn pancake, boiled corncobs, corn soup and so much more.
