Spain: “Less risk due to spread of stone fruit production areas”

“This is the first time we have presented our new image. While we first just delivered the fruit that was demanded, we now work with product lines. We have our production regions in different areas from the North to the South of Spain. With these product lines we have all types of stone fruit available from the very beginning of the season till the end”, explains José María Naranjo of Tany Nature at the Londen Produce show.

All the fruit that the company commercializes is from its own production. “This year we started with a small delay of 10 days, due to the bad weather conditions. Meaning the season runs from the beginning of May till November, ending with the late plums. Some of the production is heavily damaged because of the rain and hail storms. These volumes are used for the processing industry. However, because the company isn´t concentrated in one region, we are able to reduce the risk.”

Supply programmed volumes
José explains that, because of this spread of production regions, it’s possible for them to still supply all programmed volumes. “We have maintained all programmes without any difficulties. In addition to supplying the domestic market, the company exports to 48 countries, all of Europe and also long distance countries. We are able to adapt our products to what our customers demand.”

Tany Nature is the main supplier of Spanish plums, which are exporting by sea to China. “It’s a niche market for us. Besides a long transit time of 30 days, it’s also gives some challenges. Both countries are in the same hemisphere, so same seasons approximately. We are supplying China, even though it’s the biggest stone fruit producer in the world. Therefore, we need to offer them something special and different from the available offer.”
