The cucumber growers of cooperative Gartnerhallen have had a busy few weeks. “The extremely warm month of May speeded up the cucumber time considerably,” says Kristian Guren of Guren Gartneri in Østfold. At the cooperative, he’s responsible for the cucumber sector. Due to the warm weather, demand has increased as well. “Sales are going incredibly well. Because the month of May was so warm, the season started earlier than usual. Quality of the cucumbers is excellent, and yield is high. Our growers are working very hard to meet the great demand for Norwegian cucumbers,” Kristian says. “Normally sales only start during the summer holidays, but with this beautiful weather people eat them both at work and at home in salads, and we have noticed this increased demand.”
