The Mexican Army seized a multi-million dollar shipment of different drugs that was hidden in boxes of fruit and was destined for the United States.
The drugs included large quantities of the most commonly used illicit substances among American addicts, such as fentanyl, heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine, and marijuana.
In the black market, the drug seized can cost more than 11 million dollars, i.e. more than 226 million pesos at the current exchange rate.
In a press release, the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena) detailed that the drugs were seized on Wednesday, June 6, at 6:45 pm at the Querobabi Strategic Military Post, in the municipality of Opodepe, Sonora.
At the checkpoint, the soldiers of the 4th Military Zone detected via X-ray technology that there were several packages made of carbon paper and plastic containers hidden among a cargo of mango in a Kenworth truck.
There were 250 kilos of illegal substances were hidden among 27 tons of mango: 173.25 kilos of methamphetamine; 43.53 kilos of cocaine; 4,190 kilos of heroin; 23.22 kilos of opium gum; 2,320 kilos of fentanyl gum, and 1,820 kilos of fentanyl pills.
The soldiers arrested the driver of the trailer, identified as Jose Carlos, 39, of Nogales, Sonora, who together with the drugs and the unit, was left at the disposal of the Federal Public Prosecutor, who will continue with the investigation.
