GoodBerry working on climate-proof berry production

Climate change can have major consequences for the berry production in Europe. Within the EU project GoodBerry, they’re working on developing new berry varieties and production methods that are resistant against high temperatures and unfavourable weather conditions. The project focuses on strawberries, raspberries and blackcurrants.

GoodBerry was founded in March 2016, and the first test results have now been collected. Only after finishing the project, early in 2020, will results be presented. One of the sub-studies is the development of molecular techniques that can be used to improve berry varieties. Besides, research is done into the growth of plants and production techniques in various production areas and under various climatological circumstances.

Please watch the video of the project here, or check goodberry-eu.eu.

The project has a budget of 4.87 million euro. The university of Malaga coordinates the project that is executed by 19 partners in ten countries. In addition to European institutes and companies in Belgium, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Norway, Poland and the UK, Chilean and Chinese universities are also participating in the research.
