Mexico imposes a 20% tariff on US apples

The Government of Mexico published a list of more than 50 products from the United States that will be subject to a 15 to 25% tariff, some immediately, and others starting on July 5.

The Ministry of Economy reported in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF) that the products affected by the tariffs included blueberries and apples.

A 20% tariff will be imposed on potatoes and apples.

On May 31, the Government of the United States determined to impose a 10 and 25% tariff on aluminum and steel products from Mexico. In response the administration of Enrique Peña Nieto also decided to tax imports from that country.

"Mexico can adjust the composition of the list of US products it will tax," he stated.
