Germany: No toll for electric trucks

The Ministry of Transport wants to support transport companies in their switch to environmentally friendly trucks. For this purpose, funding guidelines for energy-efficient and/or low-CO2 trucks will be published in the Federal Gazette in early June 2018. Initial applications can be submitted to the Federal Office for Goods Transport (BAG) in July.

Eligible for this are firms purchasing trucks and semitrailer tractors (at least 7.5 tons gross weight) with natural gas drive (CNG), liquid drive (LNG) or certain electric drives (pure battery electric vehicles and fuel cell vehicles) intended for freight traffic. The vehicles must be offered for sale as a standard, new vehicle in an EU Member State. They must also go beyond the level of environmental protection required by EU standards at the time of purchase, or, in the absence of such standards, improve on environmental protection.
