Belgian traders expect carrots prices to stay high

Carrot prices have been high for the last three months. This is according to Belgian carrot traders. There have been shortages in many European countries. These include countries in Southern, as well as Eastern Europe. There was a massive demand for carrots from these countries. This resulted in price hikes. The United Kingdom was the only country with sufficient supply. France has now started with its new crop. This will halt demand from Southern Europe.

The old carrots in the Netherlands and Belgium are almost done. In France, the new carrot harvest has begun. The Netherlands will start in two to three weeks. Belgium will follow a week later. According to the traders, the weather has been ideal for the new carrots. They are, therefore, expecting good quality carrots. The old Belgian carrots were also of high-grade quality. The old Dutch carrots were of average quality. Many batches were also too large in size.

The traders expect carrots prices to remain good for the time being. The few old carrots that still remain will not put pressure on the new crops. Fewer-than-average new carrots were also sewed. Soon, there should be a slight drop in prices. It is, however, a matter of waiting to see what happens. Carrot consumption decreases in the summer. Also, fewer carrots are imported from other European countries. In six weeks, the traders should have a better idea of what to expect of the season. Now, it is difficult to predict how the season will go.
