Following the success of the Tasmanian Tiger Fuji last year, two more items are set to hit the market this year that are also themed around Australian icons.
"This year we have done a Tasmanian Devil Gala, and the other is the Kanga Ruby Gold," Howard Hansen said. "The Asian market in particular Hong Kong really like these brands that include what we would refer to as cartoon character. The cartoon character of Tiger Fuji has been so successful, we thought we'd get the traction into other varieties."
As well as the novelty prepack pouch bag packaging, Mr Hansen says the fruit itself is quite a hit with consumers.
Hansen Orchards have recently finished harvesting, with its supply of apples in controlled atmosphere cool store, and Mr Hansen says it has been an excellent season so far in terms of production.
Early in the season, Hansen Ochards focus primarily on the local Tasmanian market and putting the trademark varieties into the mainland, so demand is expected to increase as the year progresses.
"We tend not to do too much of the commodity varieties into the mainland, until later into the season," Mr Hansen said. "So I think I'd say it is showing some positive signs for later in the year."
