GASA Odense expects higher prices after Egehøj mushroom farm closes

Half of Danish mushroom production has gone

If half of the Danish mushroom production falls away, prices will climb. This is Director of the Danish trading company, Gasa Odense, Jens Nannerup's opinion, "Most of the vegetables have permanent contracts, so it will take some time. However, new contracts are negotiated in the autumn. These come into effect on 1 January 2019. The lower supply will certainly affect the prices", he thinks.

Gasa Odense sells mushrooms for St. Restrup Mushrooms in the north of Jutland. Jens does not expect any new mushroom farmers to emerge in Denmark. "I am assuming the two remaining farmers (St. Restrup and Tvedemose, red.) will cultivate more mushrooms to compensate for this. With mushrooms, there is a long start-up phase. You need to be very knowledgeable to grow mushrooms. There are also a lot of expenses. But, never say never", says Jens.
