Additional Portuguese product available at Berrybrothers
First redcurrants from the greenhouse
Berrybrothers has started the harvest of Dutch red berries from heated greenhouses in Roggel. These first red berries are of the early variety Junifer. This variety is characterised by the light colour and fresh flavour.
"The warm period in mid April meant that we caught up in the cultivation. This is why we have been able to start harvesting at the same time as last year despite the many dark and cold days in March," says Gerco. "Up to now, the fruit setting looks good. The vine length is good, which means our harvest employees will have to look closely for bunches that are coloured from top to bottom. The volume will be limited in the first days."
As an addition to the Dutch redcurrants, Berrybrothers also has redcurrants from their own production location in Portugal. These red berries are also of the variety Junifer. Compared to last year we will start harvesting 1 to 2 weeks later. This season will run until the end of June. "After the harvest from heated greenhouses we will move to the covered cultivation of the variety Junifer and Rovada. This way we will be able to guarantee our customers good quality until March, April next year," says Nijs
