Plantain shortage likely to hit Liberia

Shortages of plantains are likely to hit Liberia, due to the growing demand for plantain in the neighbouring Republic of Ivory Coast. Report say the demand for plantain in the Ivory Coast is growing daily, leaving most plantain farmers along the border to switch to the Ivorian market because of the higher prices.

A Liberian plantain farmer said that Ivorian buyers are currently working the border towns, buying at prices higher than the local market price. He said truck load of plantains can be seen headed to the border.
