Weak demand in the domestic market

Mecklenburg - Western Pomerania
The planting of potatoes has started in many regions. Some of the farmers are still in the preparatory tillage stages. On sandy soils, planting will be stopped in the middle of the week. The price levels for old stock items changed repeatedly. The potato supply is still good enough. Saplings from seed potato production are entering the market. For very good premium goods, small surcharges are possible. However, average quality predominates. Sales of stock items and early Egyptian potatoes are currently sluggish. The peeled potatoes prices remain at last week’s level. Due to the good supply situation with sub optimal potatoes, no major price changes on the peeled potato market are expected until the end of the season. The seed potato business with Russia is flourishing.

Brandenburg
Producer prices for domestic potatoes remain stable at last week's level. The prices of Egyptian new potatoes have dropped slightly. Since the Easter sales, sales in food retail and discounters are languishing on low levels. This applies to old stock and new potatoes alike. The proportion of early, imported potatoes is still low. The farmers are planting the potatoes. The prices for peeled potatoes have not changed compared to previous weeks.

Saxony
The demand for table potatoes has not yet revived after the Easter holidays. It is extremely quiet on the domestic market. Both ageing stock and foreign, new potatoes are becoming remaining on the shelves of the retail chains. Accordingly, the packaging business is running smoothly at stable prices. For the coming week, 10 kg actions are planned. The prices for unprocessed and steamed peeled potatoes remain at last week's levels. Potatoes are currently being planted.

Saxony-Anhalt
In many places, the planting has started in the fields, rain showers having caused some delays. Mail order companies and packers report low demand for table potatoes in the domestic market. Sales in the retail chains are extremely low. This affects German warehousing and imported new potatoes alike. Egyptian new potatoes are increasingly being listed by food retailers. Price levels for old stocks remains at last week’s level. Exports to Poland and the Czech Republic are ongoing. Peeled potatoes prices remain at the levels last week.

Thuringia
Old ware potatoes continue to trade at the same price levels of recent weeks. For premium goods there are surcharges of up to 2 EUR/dt. On the market, however, mostly medium quality is available. Prices for imported goods are dipping slightly. The turnover share of foreign potatoes is still low. The sales of stored goods and new potatoes is very sluggish. Demands for raw and peeled potatoes remain at last week’s levels. In many places, farmers are planting the potatoes.
