First harvest of apricots starting in Mut

The harvest season for apricots has started in the Mut district of Mersin, in southern Turkey. The district expects around 120,000 tons of apricots this season and the first harvested products are selling to wholesalers at 3.75 USD per kg.

The growers were satisfied with the price level and expressed their hope about this year’s products and the income they are expecting to generate.

From the total production, half of it will be exported whereas the rest will be offered to the local market. 85% of the local demand in the country is fulfilled by the apricot growers in this district, as it is the center of apricot production for Turkey and the apricots are grown on an area of 6.5 billion square feet in total.

In 2017, the district grew 100,000 tons and exported 50,000 tons for a value of 50 million USD.
