Argentina: Blueberry producers continue to fight against child labor

Argentina's Blueberry Committee (ABC) and the different sectors that make up the fruit industry, continue working to prevent child labor. This week the Association of Blueberry Producers of Tucuman (APRATUC), a member of the ABC, organized a visit to the Center for Community Integration (CIC) of the Commune of Sargento Moya, which will be a child-care facility during the harvest season of the blueberry.

The activity was headed by the manager of APRATUC, who was accompanied by the Comptroller of the Commune of Sergento Moya, the Secretary of MIPYME and Employment of Tucumán, and the representative of the National Registry of Rural Workers and Employers (RENATRE).

The ABC highlighted their link with the RENATRE, which they said was "a fundamental actor and strategic partner, both regionally and nationally, to continue working in our cause, which is the prevention and awareness against child labor in the sector."

The Center for Community Integration (CIC) of the Commune of Sargento Moya will be a child-care facility for the children of the women that work in the blueberry season. It is a public center, free, and open to the entire rural community in the area.

ABC participates as an active member in the Network of Companies against Child Labor, which promotes and supports programs to prevent and eradicate Child Labor. They carry their work within the scope of the Ministry of Labor, Employment, and Social Security. It is chaired by the National Commission for the Eradication of Child Labor - CONAETI.

The ABC is also working together with regional institutions, such as the Blueberry Producers Association of Mesopotamia Argentina - APAMA (NEA), the Argentinean Chamber of Blueberry Producers and other Berries - CAPAB (Buenos Aires), and the aforementioned APRATUC.
