Shanghai Nongfu welcomes Del Monte pineapples from the Philippines to Shanghai Huizhan Market

Shanghai Nongfu welcomed the new arrival of Del Monte pineapples in the Shanghai Huizhan Market today.

The pineapple is a welcome product all over the world. The growing Chinese market has not yet the same influence on South American traders as other markets, but this may soon change. China imports pineapples from Taiwan, the Philippines, and Thailand, while Hainan provides domestic production. Last year, Costa Rica and Malaysia both obtained permission to export their pineapples to the Chinese market. Taiwan is one of China's largest pineapple suppliers.

Costa Rica will export its first shipment of pineapples to China in July. At present, four registered companies are allowed to export pineapples to China. Overall, Costa Rican planters believe that opening up the Chinese market will not radically alter the rapid growth of Costa Rican pineapple production. The surface area devoted to pineapple plantations in Costa Rica is close to 43 thousand hectares.

Shanghai Nongfu also supplies Egyptian oranges, western plums, kiwi fruit, coconuts, dragon fruit, durian, and plums, in addition to pineapples.
