Peru: Lack of associations is a big problem for mango producers

"Only 10% of the 10 thousand mango producers in Piura are associated," said the head of the Regional Bureau of Agriculture of Piura (DRA Piura), Mario Laberry Saavedra, adding that "the lack of associativity is a serious problem, especially when exporting the product."

"The main problem that mango producers in this region have is a lack of associativity and disorganization that has generated serious problems in the commercialization of the product at low prices, both in the national and international markets. The region has 22,270 hectares of mango," he said.

Laberry said that the Piura DRA will have organized producers by mid 2018 so that they can better market their mango in the 2018-2019 season, as they are currently in the middle of the 2017/2018 harvest campaign.
