China: Interception of Chinese yams at Qingdao airport

The Qingdao airport Office for Quality Supervision, Inspection, and Quarantine intercepted a large quantity of fresh Chinese yams from two Japanese passengers entering the country. They carried 40 kg of Chinese yams. This is the first time that Qingdao airport has intercepted Chinese yams. It was also the largest quantity of Chinese yams intercepted in Shandong in for some years.

The passengers did not declare the yams and they were unable to produce quarantine papers or other authentication. The employees of the Office for Quality Supervision confiscated and destroyed them in accordance with regulations.
