Italian-Spanish joint venture for water-repellent packaging

An Italian-Spanish joint venture has been recently set up for the commercialisation of a water-repellent fully-recyclable cardboard crate suitable for fruit and leafy vegetables. It is made up of five sections assembled so as to ensure excellent stacking and sturdiness.

Packfort water-repellent packaging has been patented by Abelan-Videcart. The joint venture involves Italian company Imballaggi D'Aniello. "Proof of how, by adopting modern management logic, a family business can strengthen its position on the market and develop its quality, professionalism and technological innovation. We are informed about new market dynamics and care about green economy and packaging recyclability," explains sales manager Bruno D'Aniello.

The crate has been designed for vegetables. "Our company has the exclusive rights for central Italy. Just think about Agro Pontino and the vast production of radishes, kohlrabi and carrots exported to Germany, the Netherlands and Poland, for example. Many German supermarkets want to replace German crates for waste disposal purposes and are looking for alternatives."

Packfort is the perfect solution, as it is poly-coated with max. 5% food plastic and can be disposed of as 100% cardboard in compliance with European directives.

In addition to being recyclable, water-repellent cardboard crates are suitable to be used with fresh and wet produce. "They can be stacked and placed under the washing sprinklers used to maintain the produce fresh."

Imballaggi D'Aniello is a leading company in the fresh produce and industry packaging market in the Fondi area. It was founded in the 1980s by three brothers and is currently managed by the new generation of family entrepreneurs: Domenico, Linda, Bruno and Alessandro D'Aniello. It has two production facilities (Fondi and Cisterna di Latina) and works in partnership with Ghelfi Ondulati Spa for the commercialisation of corrugated cardboard in central Italy.
