"In the wake of India closing its ports, we've already changed focus to domestic retail"

"Before 2016, we mainly exported our apples. India was one of the main export destinations. Afterwards, India closed its ports for all Chinese apples. This was fatal for our export trade. From 2017 onward we changed our focus to the domestic retail of apples." This is according to Ms. Li Ying from Qing Xin Fruits.

"As far as retail is concerned, we have online and offline operations running in tandem. Offline retail is mainly aimed at the wholesale markets and merchants of first and second tier cities in Guangzhou, Shanghai, and Nanjing. In addition, we've run a month-long advertising campaign in high-speed railway stations in the north to spread the name of our brand. Online retail mainly takes place through close a collaboration with e-commerce platforms like Taobao and Alibaba. Qingyang apples have obtained effective marketing, popularization, and retail. This is particularly true for the joint retail promotion with Alibaba in 2017. Our retail volume showed a significant increase. At present, online retail only accounts for 20% of our retail volume. However, we are confident that in the future we can achieve much growth in this area."

"Although consumers do not just look at the price, as they did several years ago, the price still remains an important aspect of apple purchases. After the price comes the fruit brand, packaging, and the stability of product quality. All of these aspects together decide the market position of fruits."
