"The quality of Fuji apples from Shandong left much to be desired this season as a result of extreme local weather conditions. The quality and color of Fuji apples from Dalian, however, are in much better shape. They are better able to draw the attention from purchasing merchants at home and abroad. The purchase price of Dalian Fuji apples has greatly increased compared with the previous export season as a result of these conditions. According to our estimates the price increase has reached at least 20%." This is according to Mr. Wang Zheng, the import and export manager of the fruit and vegetable department, and member of the supervisory board of Dalian Tianbao Green Foods Co., Ltd.

"Apart from the aforementioned weather conditions, the export price of Fuji apples in this production season was also influenced by fluctuations in the foreign-exchange ratio. At present, the price has increased, but there is a limit to the ability of overseas markets to absorb the apple harvest. If there are not enough importers with sufficient consumer capacity, then they can only shift from high-quality apples to purchase relatively cheap low-quality apples."

"Looking at this from a nationwide perspective we will see that with the coming of Chinese Spring Festival the sales market of apples will show a polarizing tendency. On the one hand, the volume of high-quality apples will be relatively small and the market will adopt a hesitant attitude. On the other hand, the volume of common-quality apples will be large and the sales pressure in the days before Spring Festival will be high."

"We have 333 hectares in Dalian with orchards that are registered under a cooperation. The orchards have a supply capacity of 1,000 tons. The annual supply period of export-grade fruit starts in October and runs until July in the subsequent year. In this stage our Fuji apples predominantly pass through Dalian Yaowan port for export to The United States and Canada. In the future, we hope to be able to link up directly with supermarkets and large-scale dealers in overseas markets, so we can deliver our apples to the table of even more people," said Wang Zheng (Baggio Wang) - Import and export manager of the fruit and vegetable department and member of the supervisory board.
