Commercial Partnership Agreement between C.I.V. & I.G. International

The Modì apple lands on the Indian subcontinent

The Civg198*/Modì® apple project lands on the Indian subcontinent. The Chairman of CIV - Consorzio Italiano Vivaisti - Pier Filippo Tagliani and the Director of I.G. International Tarun Arora (Picture on the right) have just signed a Commercial Partnership Agreement to develop the Modìciv® brand in India.

As already announced at the Fresh Produce India Event held in Mumbai on last 27th -28th April 2017, CIV’s strategic goal has been confirmed today : the implementation, for a few varieties that are potentially suitable for local consumption, of a systematic, structured approach to the Indian/Far East market through its own Network of International Licensees.

The Far East is particularly strategic as a potential export market in the future for new ‘Made in Italy’ apples, even while considering the current objective difficulties related to the logistics, weather, supply chain maintenance for the cold, and the feedback of local consumers, today mainly focused on products made in China (Fuji), the USA (Red Delicious and Gala) and only minimally on those from Europe and Italy (i.e.: red apples, Gala and Granny Smith).

The International Civg198*/Modi apple Project has numerous Licensees/Partners (for Production and/or Commercialization) in the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. The global production goal for upcoming years is approx. 1,000 hectares with promising development opportunities expected in the Far East, especially in India.

“The main goal of development of the Modìciv brand in India over the next three years will be for CIV to evaluate and identify the commercial partnerships with some of the main local importers/distributors to be able to then evaluate the possibility of local production tests”, Tagliani emphasized on last April 2017 in Mumbai.

“Today - the CIV Chairman states - we are particularly confident about the results of the Agreement between CIV and I.G. International Pvt Ltd which, as an officially Authorized Modi Distributor, will help us gradually reach our shared goal of appropriately positioning the apple and developing it in the Indian market through the main distribution channels of Retail/Normal Trade/Ho.Re.Ca.”

IG International has established a strong and consolidated fresh produce procurement & handling capacities for over 31 varieties of fruits from 22 Countries by satisfying the diversified tastes of the Indian markets.

“This agreement - Tagliani and Arora jointly confirm - certainly is the first important step towards the systematic, structured development of the Civg198*/Modìciv apple project in the Indian market, starting immediately in January 2018,” says Mr. Tarun Arora, Director, IG International told.
