Yellow Venus apple price stable

Apple tree market not yet standardized

"The yellow Venus apple is a breed that was crossbred naturally by professors of the Agricultural Department of Iwate University in Japan. In 2010, it was introduced by Mr. Kumagaya. It is very popular in Japan, and its prices when gift-wrapped have become much higher than those of Fuji apples," states Mr. Zhang Lijun, CEO of Shandong Tian Yu Tian Eco Agriculture Co., Ltd.

"When it was promoted on the Chinese market, the breed received very favorable reviews. This is mainly because of two factors. Firstly, it is a special type of fruit. Secondly, the apples are harvested after the frost to guarantee their sweetness."

"Our company is located in Rongcheng, a seaside city on the eastern peninsula of Shandong. It was founded in December 2014. We have our own standardized, modernized and certified apple fields of 60 hectares (600 mu), where grow high quality apples, such as yellow Venus apples, Sanyou Fuji apples, green India apples and Wang Lin apples. Our annual production is 1,700 tons."

"Compared to other breeds, the market price for yellow Venus apples is rather high. We are currently selling our Venus and Fuji apples under our own brands 'Hanpin' and 'Bu Bu Cui' through traditional sales channels to premium fruit stores in first tier cities in China, such as Beijing and Shanghai, where people are now striving for healthy and organic fruit. In the near future, we are hoping to expand to e-commerce as well, and, when the time is right, we also want to reach the Hong Kong market."

"Furthermore, through the support of the Shandong Agricultural Science Institute, the breeding of our Venus trees will develop even better. The tree varieties appear to be quite complicated on the Chinese market right now, as there are differences in taste, and supply channels are not up to standards. Fortunately, our trees are offering the farmers a solid guarantee. We are now using the traceability platform Zhuisubao to provide complete monitoring in all segments, from planting to medication, harvest and finally delivery."
