"Fifth grade teacher wins Sweetango "Share the Crunch" contest after sharing with her class"

From September to November 2017, the growers of SweeTango apples conducted a contest that invited consumers throughout the U.S. and Canada to post on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram how they #ShareTheCrunch of SweeTango with others.

Entries were open to public voting, with the grand prize of $1,000 for the entry with the most votes, plus $1,000 for the winner’s local food bank to further celebrate generosity and community giving.

Kamesha Jones, a fifth-grade teacher at Arab Elementary School in Arab, Alabama, submitted the winning entry, having received more than 3,500 votes. Jones was already in the habit of sharing apples with her students, frequently bringing bagged apples into her classroom along with her handy corer-slicer tool to cut the fruit into slices. In fact, she carries her corer-slicer into the cafeteria to cut students’ apples there, too.

Jones thought winning the contest would be a long shot, but as she, her husband, and her children are active volunteers at the local food bank, she decided to try.

Once she placed her entry, she continually encouraged her friends, fellow teachers, and members of her church to vote. “At one time we were in 8th place or even lower, but I was not willing to give up,” Jones said. In the end though, she came out on top.

Over the course of the campaign, 500 photo and video entries were submitted, 11,000 votes were cast, and 27,500 visits to the contest webpage were logged. In addition to the grand prize, random draws for weekly giveaways of SweeTango gift boxes were held.
