Italy: Apples might be exported to Vietnam

A delegation of Vietnamese operators is currently visiting Italy to assess the possibility of establishing trade relationships. In particular, the purpose of the visit is the creation of a protocol for the export of Italian apples.

The delegation is made up of experts in the phytosanitary field and trade operators. After visiting the regional phytosanitary service, they went to apple producers in Ferrara, Trento and Cuneo and finished the week at the Ministry in Rome.

Vietnam adopted the protocol already in use in most extra-EU countries, i.e. free exports only after the approval of a detailed protocol, the so-called phytosanitary barriers, as many exporters call them.

What's important is being responsible. When it comes to imports, the European Union decides for everyone but, for exports, each single nation must prove its compliance. Of course, the first countries to do so (generally the ones who are better organised) fill most of the market.
