China: Main obstacles to selling watermelons succesfully

The main obstacles to selling watermelons this year are the following:

First: This year had 6 humid months, which resulted in the four seasons succeeding each other rapidly, so watermelons from all regions entered the market in large amounts. The supply exceeded demand and producers could only lower prices in order to attract customers.

Second: There was a lot of rain in Guangzhou city, with falling air temperatures. As everybody knows, the saying "With fine weather, sell watermelons; with cloudy weather sell peaches", so the sales of watermelons have suffered a lot.

Third: The economic crisis can still be felt in the whole country. Many factories in the south have shut their doors. In these times a company which can sufficiently maintain a basic life safeguard is already considered to be a good company. However, their workers will also consume a lot less.

Fourth: The price of open field watermelons went up sharply last year. This was even higher than the price for the greenhouse watermelons which are grown in the open for two years. This year the size of watermelon plantations is larger, and thus the overal production capacity is extensive. This is also a reason why watermelons are selling slowly.

The main reasons 
First: Too many producers, continuously expanding plantations, agricultural produce without any planning.

Second: The management of urban systemization, which is driving some independent vendor's booths out of first tier cities. In supermarkets the prices are exorbitant, hitting the pockets of the salaried class, and driving down sales. 

Third: The costs of labour, fertilizers and other chemicals are rising continously, but the prices for growers has not kept pace with these developments and fruit farmers are getting no return on their hard-earned investments.
