"This year, the export period for pears starts on 20 July, and it will most likely end in April or May next year, depending on the storage situation. Up until now, without any extreme weather, the total Chinese pear production volume is the same as last year. Because of an increase in production area and a continuous growth in production, the total production volume will be increasing in the future," states Wang Zhongjiang from Botou Ya Feng Fruit Co., Ltd.

"Currently, we have a production area of around 400 hectares (4000 mu) in Hebei. We produce different kinds of products there, such as Ya pears, golden pears, crown pears and Niitaka pears. We mainly export our products to America, Europe, the Middle East, and several countries in South-East Asia, such as Malaysia and India. The scattered export market not only guarantees that our total export volume will not be influenced by certain political factors, which could dramatically decrease our export, but also effectively balances the storage volume of the different products."

"This year's export volume potential is bigger than last year's, especially the export to the Dutch market, which has increased over 50%. The main reason for this is that the hail storms in April this year destroyed a large part of the pear production fields in the Netherlands and in surrounding areas. Even though the demand from the Netherlands has increased, the export price will not be very unstable, rising 5% at most."

"Now that our production area is growing, we are even stricter in controlling this issue. We only use pesticides according to the newest regulations of the European Union, and we perform an inspection after picking our pears. Only after passing these tests, will the products will be sent to Europe."
