Early table grape schedules

The harvesting and commercialisation of Italian grapes starts in May. The most popular varieties are white Victoria and Black Magic. Almost all the other varieties presented in this note are available from mid-July onward.

The lucky growers who harvest in May-June obtain interesting revenues due to the fact that there is little produce available and competition on the European markets is low. There is still some grapes from India, Chile and South Africa in stock, but the freshness and high-quality of the Italian produce is favoured.

The earliest produce comes from eastern Sicily in the warmer areas of Acate, Gela, Licata and Mazzarrone. Even though the latter is not close to the sea, some expert growers manage to ripen Black Magicand Victoria from mid-May.

Early grapes are mostly sold in northern Italy in the markets in Milan, Bologna, Padua, Venice, Turin, Florence, etc.
