The English market has been a good sales market for River Onions throughout the years. "We have an agent on every wholesale market in England. The advantage of the British market is that they're a customer all year round. They buy slightly more or less sometimes, but it's sales market 52 weeks per year," says Arie. River Onions is trying to define itself in the area of specialities, such as red onions, garlic and shallots.
He is optimistic about the new season. "Due to the dry and cold spring the years of the first planting onions will be slightly lower, but overall I expect a normal yield in planting onions. There isn't much to be said about the main harvest of seeding onions, but it looks good at the moment. Last week's rain was very welcome. At the start of the new onion season a good balance between demand and supply is crucial."
