Dutch top chef introduces Vegetable Frikandel

This week, &samhoud food introduces a new product: the Vegetable Frikandel, not made with meat, but with seven types of vegetable. The vegetable innovation was developed by chef Moshik Roth, who has two Michelin stars for restaurant &samhoud places in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

Healthier snack alternative
Top chef Moshik Roth, creative mind behind &samhoud food’s products, is know for his innovations using vegetables. Moshik: “With the Vegetable Frikandel, I wanted to wink at the snack lovers. I want to show your snacks can taste just as nice with vegetables. You don’t need meat for guilty pleasures, it’s much healthier, and moreover, much more sustainable.” The Vegetable Frikandel will be available in a mini-version in the meat substitute department in Dutch supermarket Albert Heijn as of this week. For food service, the larger version will be available at Deli XL and the company restaurants from Eurest.

Made from vegetables
For the Vegetable Frikandel, a combination of at least seven types of vegetables was looked for: mushroom, aubergine, green peas, corn, bell pepper, onion and carrot. Besides many vegetables, the product also offers other advantages compared to the traditional frikandel; it contains almost half the amount of salt, more than twice as many dietary fibres, and 40 per cent less fat. Furthermore, it’s a source of fibres and proteins, and contains no artificial additives for colour, flavour and shelf life.

Kale Burger
&samhoud food wants to inspire people to eat more vegetables, which is why vegetables are always the basis of their products. Besides the Vegetable Frikandel, the young food company also introduces the Kale Burger on Albert Heijn’s meat-substitute shelves. This will follow shortly after the introduction of another innovation: natural ice cream made from vegetables. Besides vegetable ice cream and meat-replacing products, &samhoud food also has fresh meals with at least 200 grammes of vegetables in their assortment.
